Camino-Inspired Books

Greetings! It’s the time of year to share a selection of Camino-inspired gifts for the holidays.  I try to find gifts created within the last year, or that have not been featured on my previous posts. Featured below are books that would make excellent gifts for the Camino enthusiast in your life.

Featured Books

1000 Miles: Walking & Painting the Way of Saint James
by Sharon Bamber

In this gorgeous book, Sharon documents a 6-month 1000-mile walk across France and Spain, along the ancient Way of Saint James, painting every 5 miles along the entire journey, in all weathers and conditions. Learn more and order at SharonBamber.com

Camino Wandering
By Tara Marlow

Camino Wandering is a fictional novel, set on the Camino de Santiago. Overcoming blisters, aching joints, and the uncertainty of life, the trio walk together on a path of trust and forgiveness. But as they shed the miles, and inches from their waistlines, the connection they share bonds them like no other relationship they have ever experienced.  Available in Paperback or Kindle from Amazon.

Letters from the Way
By Barbara Anderson

Barbara V. Anderson’s book, Letters from the Way takes readers on her solo walk that covered 600 miles on the GR 653, from Arles, France to Puente la Reina, Spain. This was not Barbara’s first long distance walk and like she did before, she wrote weekly letters to her family. As these letters were shared, she found herself writing to more than fifty friends who then shared the letters with their friends.
Barbara is another one of the amazing women featured in Susan Alcorn’s book, Walk, Hike, Saunter: Seasoned Women Share Tales and Trails. I had the pleasure of walking with Barbara in San Francisco on two recent NorCal chapter hikes. She’s delightful! Purchase her book on Amazon.

Found Along The Way: Stories from the Camino de Santiago
By Sheila Kogan

A delightful book by Bay Area author Sheila Kogan. In twenty connected stories, Sheila Kogan’s Found Along The Way takes us on her five-hundred-mile pilgrimage across Spain on the Camino de Santiago. Through funny, homey, at times sacred experiences, we travel on a journey between doubt and trust, physical exhaustion and spiritual rebirth.

Available in Kindle and Paperback from Amazon.

A Daily Pilgrim Devotional
By G M T Brosius

A Daily Pilgrim Devotional serves as a daily devotional book for the hundreds of thousands whom are called by the path’s spirit to a holy and sacred site. The author has chosen words of inspiration carefully from ancient philosophers, statesmen, religious fathers and other authors who have written about pilgrimage and life as a journey. At the end of each daily entry, the author has an interpretive meaning which conveys a message of faith, hope and the resulting triumph of the pilgrim’s finish.  At a minimal weight of only 3.35 ounces (95 grams) and a size of 5 x 8 inches (12 x 20 cm), it was created for the person to place in their backpacks or mochilas. However, an e-book is available too! Pilgrims will also be able to write on the back of each of the 35 daily entries as a way to memorialize his or her journey and therefore to keep as a memento of their achievement.  The book was endorsed by the well respected and honourable John Brierley.
Available from Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Surviving Christmas by Loving Advent: Making Peace with the Incomplete
by Roy Uprichard

Told with a Celtic, Northern Irish twist, the author imagines not only the untold range of emotions coursing between the lines of our Nativity tales, but also, how we might today navigate our way through this festival full of ambiguity. Feel the ebb and flow of a season in this fresh look at our star-bright stories. Available on Kindle for just $0.99.

Roy Uprichard is the author of three beautiful Camino books which were featured before: On the Portuguese Way, Stone & Water, and Restless Hearts. “Surviving Christmas by Loving Advent” might not be a Camino book, but he definitely earned his street cred as a Camino author. I look forward to a fresh twist on the Advent season from a pilgrim’s perspective!

Note: If you have something that you think should be included in this list, email me a description and link. I will add more submissions to a “New additions” shortcut link that you’ll see when you revisit this post later.
