About the patch: I design the patches to put on my own backpack and to share with other Camino enthusiasts. There has been a different patch for each year since 2016, and when they’re gone, they’re gone. I only do a special once a year. Continue reading
I just returned home from another relatively short Camino. Two travel days, one night in Rabanal, one night in Ponferrada, ten days of walking, and two days in Santiago.
I was craving a less crowded walk, so decided to do the Camino Invierno, aka Winter Way, from Ponferrada. This is definitely a less-trodden Camino, but little did I know that I wouldn’t see a pilgrim until the third day! This was by far the most challenging Camino for me because some of the stages were very long, and a few days there were no places to stop. But, I walked through incredibly beautiful landscapes, connected with some locals, and survived some unforeseen challenges. In short, it was a Camino of solitude at the beginning, a test of my fortitude in the middle, but throughout it all, left me with a feeling of extreme gratitude. I will write more about it later. I did some posts on Instagram and Facebook if you want a sneak preview of my adventures and a few pilgrim hacks, see:
Hola from Ponferrada, España.
I just started walking the Camino Invierno! I will write a detailed route report upon my return. For now, I am excited to share a cause that I am supporting and ask for your help pitching in. During my Camino, between May 17-28, $2 from every patch sale will be donated to Egeria House in Santiago to support the work of Sybille Yates and the volunteers who help pilgrims in need. My patches can be ordered for $4 each at: Etsy.com/shop/caminoprovides
I met Sybille in Santiago after my last two Caminos and witnessed how she has helped many pilgrims. Sybille is a busy woman! After seeing her at the 10 am mass, handing out hymn sheets and helping pilgrims to find a seat, I saw her again at the hospital visiting a friend of mine from the Bay Area who became critically ill while walking the Camino. Because I have seen her kindness in action, I want to show support for what she is doing in Santiago with Egeria House. She is one of those Camino angels I will write about when I get back home.
Learn more at: Egeria.House
My patches can be ordered at: Etsy.com/shop/caminoprovides
I will give Egeria House the patch sale contributions when I get to Santiago on May 27th or 28th.
Thank you for sharing the Camino love!
Greetings! It’s the time of year to share a selection of Camino-inspired gifts for the holidays. I try to find gifts created within the last year, or that have not been featured on my previous posts. This is an ode to the Camino creatives tribe, which I mentioned in a previous post. These are pilgrims who have been so inspired by their experience on the Camino that they have turned their creative ideas and hobbies into films, books, artwork, crafts, jewelry, and more. I always enjoy hearing their stories and sharing their labors of love. I am super excited because I just received the new patches for 2019, which are pictured at the end of this post. Browse the gifts for the pilgrims on your list, and perhaps pick something out for yourself! You’ve been a good pilgrim all year, haven’t you? If not, I won’t tell St. Nick, or St. James. 😉

It’s the time of year to share an updated list of Camino-inspired gifts for the holidays. I find it fascinating that some pilgrims have been so inspired by their experience on the Camino that they have turned their creative ideas and hobbies into films, books, artwork, crafts, jewelry, and more. I see this as a way pilgrims can share their talents in a way others can enjoy, and possibly, also be inspired by the Camino! Below are a few gift ideas for the pilgrims on your list.
I’m super excited to announce the new patch for 2018.
The patch is similar to the 2017 design with the rainbow-banded Camino shell, but has the red color for 2018. The rainbow shell design was inspired by the concept of chakras, which was an important part of my journey with yoga and healing over the last year. I am continuing with the chakras theme for 2018 by highlighting the root chakra color at the base of the shell.
Happy Holidays! I love this time of year for so many reasons. Mostly, I love to give gifts! However, it is easy to get caught up in the frenzy of commercialized Christmas. I try to stay away from big stores and shopping malls. It is so overwhelming! I prefer to shop in local neighborhoods or online. Fortunately, there is a great variety of gifts from pilgrims who were so inspired by their experience that they turned their ideas or crafts into creative Camino gifts. Below are a few ideas for gifts for the pilgrims on your list. There is something for everyone!
On my first Camino, I carried an Osprey Sirrus 24 backpack, in which everything fit fine, and there was still a little room to spare. It was only at the end of my Camino that I wished it had more capacity. On my return trip to Lisbon, where I was to catch my flight home, I had to carry the souvenirs I bought in Santiago in a separate bag. Yes, I know. I’m eating my words! Read my previous review about the said backpack being large enough. For the most part, it was perfect for my one-week Camino, but it would have been nice to be able to fit those extra items in it.
